Geoff Fenwick

Dear BCMS Members,

It is with sadness that we write to inform you of the passing of Geoffrey Beck Fenwick on January 30th in Vancouver. Geoff was the builder and Captain of ‘Amelia’, 31 ft. Sea Runner Trimaran, 1981-1998. He was an active member of BCMS in the 1980s and 1990s.

Geoff’s passion for sailing was the reason he moved to Vancouver in 1978. Amelia was built from 1979 til launch in 1981 in the backyard of our home in Deep Cove. We spent almost 17 years cruising in the BC waters and Puget Sound, enjoying the BCMS gatherings and spending many hours in the Barns of BCMS Boat builders in the early 1980s. Geoff and family cruised in the South Pacific on ‘Pearl’ with David Dexter, fulfilling his dream of offshore cruising. Those days filled some of Geoff’s most pleasant memories. As his Parkinson’s disease started to progress, sailing became more difficult but his love for the ocean never subsided.

Geoff is survived and will be missed by his wife Iris, daughter Joanne (Dean), Tracy (Rolando), and grandchildren Sadie, Holden, Felix, and Samuel. There will be a celebration of Geoff’s life held at Deep Cove Yacht Club on Thursday Feb 4th at 2pm at Deep Cove Yacht Club.

Please feel free to share any stories or memories of Geoff. Does anyone have any information about ‘Amelia’s’ whereabouts? We read she was meant to go offshore in 2006?

  1. I received this comment from Cat and Colin Bryant:

Cat L’Hirondelle and myself did a major overhaul of Amelia, after buying her from Geoff and Iris. We sailed the South coast for a few years, until health forced a sale to Dale Gebhard (SP?). I last saw Amelia at anchor, in False Creek, 4-5 years ago.
