We changed venue this year. Went to Port Browning instead of Winter Cove and it worked out very well. Dinner on the beach Saturday night, fun race on Sunday and awards in the restaurant on Sunday evening. Quite a few members attended with their boats. Jerzy Kostanski came in his recently launched trimaran, Liquidata. Jerzy, who designed the boat himself, calls it a TNT34. She looked very fast and was beautifully finished.
In the Sunday fun race, Liquidata was the first to finish and won the racing division. Second was Flying Kiwi and third Dreamchaser. In the cruising division, it was Albatross II, then Simone and third went to Manitou.
Ten multihulls (Geneva, Son of Raven, Bad Kitty, Osprey, Blue Lightning, Not Yet, Dragonfly, Impulse, Flying Kiwi, Albatross I and Dream Chaser)participated in the 2013 Cow Bay Regatta. Winds were light on Saturday but Sunday saw the return of the “Doctor”. First place went to Geneva, second Bad Kitty and third Osprey.
Quite a few members attended the annual sail in to NewCastle Island on the last weekend in July. Members, Ken & Wendy Pepperdine invited us all to their house Friday night for Pizza. Saturday we had the group dinner on shore followed by Fireworks courtesy of the City of Nanaimo. The sun shone and it was a lot of fun.
There were enough members at the annual meeting of the club on May 18 to form a quorum. The financial statements for last year were approved and the Directors elected. On Sunday, there was a fun race with the trophies being given out that night at Port Browning restuarant.
Celia, Walter, Dorian & Pikera Payne hosted the BCMS Christmas Party for a second year. Anyone coming to the party could tell when they were at the right house by the number of hulls in the yard and by the Farrier boat parked on the road. Ron Tomas cooked the turkey again this year and everyone else brought a dish to share. There was lots of good food. After dinner, there was a small gift exchange. About forty people attend.
Again this year there was an excellent turn out of multihulls for the annual labour day winter cove sail in this year. Over fifteen boats participated in the activities at various times during the long weekend. There was a group dinner both Saturday and Sunday night at the Uthoff’s cabin (thank you Gayle, Jacqueline & Robbie) and a fun race on Sunday. Winner of the Cruising division: Mustang Sally and Racing: Dreamchaser.
The fun started with beer and Pizza Friday night at Wendy and Ken Pepperdine’s house on Protection Island. On Saturday, there was a single handed race sponsored by Nanaimo Yacht Club and some members decided to give the locals new challenges. First to finish was the Club’s president, Bob Davis skippering Bad Kitty. Saturday night was the usual group picnic/BBQ on NewCastle Island. About twenty people enjoyed the party which was followed by Fireworks sponsored by the City of Nanaimo.
