“2009 Semiahmoo International Regatta”

April 25th – 26th., 2009

Karl Uthoff’s BAD KITTY starts 2009 season off with a VICTORY! Skippered by BC Multihull Society President Bob Davis and with BCMS members Ron Tomas, Tim Poustie, and Alec Mackenzie as crew, Bad Kitty led Blue Lightning (Mark Gumley), The RufDuck (Linda Adams) and Blue MajAC (Jason Arnold) to the finish line in the first race of the 2009 Semiahmoo International Regatta on Saturday, April 25th. Other multihulls entered in the race were Niall Berry’s Cosair 24, Richard Wood’s Tucanu, Rae Simpson’s Mustang Sally and Kim Alfred’s Black MajAC

BAD Kitty also did well in Sunday’s shorter races with two firsts and one second. She won the 2009 Haley’s Dodge Cup and the White Rock Cup.

Dick Newick Trophy This is the BCMS seasonal championship.  It’s based on the best 4 out of the following 6 races. – BCMS Port Browning – Single Hand – BCMS Winter Cove – Cow Bay Regatta – Around Pender Island – Jack and Jill 1997 Tardis 1998 Tardis 1999 Tardis 2000 Tardis (Bad Kitty)	Tardis Trophy The Tardis Trophy is given for the fastest BCMS boat overall at the following five events. – BCMS Port Browning – Single Hand – BCMS Winter Cove – Round Pender J- ack and Jill Race 1998 Tardis 1999 Tardis 2000 Tardis (Bad Kitty)

Nine boats entered the Cape Flattery Multihull division of the Swifsure International Yacht race – Bad Kitty (BCMS), Dream Chaser (BCMS), Sauterelle (BCMS), Dragon Fly, Red Shift, Blue Lightning, Freda Mae & Rufduck. Five multis choose the shorter Rosedale Rocks course – Geneva (BCMS),  Cat Sass, Drum, Son of Raven & Taz.  A good time was had on the dock Friday before the race with meeting old friends and making new as well as checking out improvements made over the winter to the various boats.  Richard Ackrill (Dragonfly) organized a Group dinner for Multihullers at the Royal Victoria Yacht club on Friday night.  Over fifty people attended and had a good meal plus lots of laughs over the stories told.

Strong Wind (over 30 knots) was in the forecast for the race start on Saturday and for most of the day.  For once, the forecast was true which resulted in quite a few boats withdrawing due to damage to equipment or unpleasant conditions for the crew.  First home in the Swiftsure race was Dragonfly @ 8:30 PM on Saturday night.  Next multihull was Red Shift @ 5:07 AM Sunday morning followed by Blue Lightning at 6:30 AM.  All the other boats in the Cape Flattery Multihull Division did not finish. Geneva was first in the Rosedale Rocks race.
